One Day Wonders: Sister Cities Park

Great way to beat the heat! Just across the bridge.

It’s hard to believe that in the center of Philadelphia lies a park that will make your littles feel like they are exploring a magical hidden forest complete with a swimming pond, babbling brook and a hideout  just for them. When adults realize such a place exists on the corner of 18th and Vine and is a quick Patco trip or car ride from the suburbs it almost seems too good to be true!

Sister Cities park offers families this ability to discover the magic of the local woodlands and mountains right in the center of the city. On one side of the park is a large play fountain for kids to run through. The opposite side of the park is a discovery garden that is designed to resemble the Whissicken Valley. It’s here where kids climb up boulders, race along pathways and play in the man made water paths that resemble a babbling brook.

The park was designed for young kids to explore nature while remaining safe. Along with the winding waterways and tiny pond, there is also a large twig nest for kids to hide away in and a large play net and platform for bouncing rolling or just relaxing in the sunshine.

In the middle of the park is the Sister Cities Cafe, an air conditioned lovely little establishment who completely understand who their customer are.  Adults will be happy to see a wide variety of coffee, teas, and healthy sandwiches while littles will enjoy the cafes own take on a lunch-able and drink pouches. The cafe also sells swimmy diapers for those who forgot theirs (the park requires all non potty trained participants to wear them) and various rubber duckies to float down the streams.

Packing list for a memorable time:

Water shoes

Water toys, buckets, small boats or rubber ducks

Bathing suit

Swim Diapers

Large blanket to sit on the lawn under a big tree  for some quality family time!

More information on the park can be found on their website.
